David Jonsson Cast as New Black Panther in Upcoming ‘Black Panther 3’

Director Ryan Coogler revealed during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel that David Jonsson will take on the mantle of the Black Panther. Jonsson will portray T’Challa’s son in the upcoming ‘Black Panther 3,’ scheduled for release on December 15, 2028. Coogler is set to direct the third installment of the series.

Jonsson and Coogler appeared onstage during the announcement. Jonsson expressed gratitude, saying, Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join. He added, I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let this screen do the talking.

The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause at the news.

The original Black Panther film featured Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020 after the film premiered, leaving a void in the role just as Coogler worked on the sequel, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. In the sequel, Letitia Wright assumed a significant role, portraying T’Challa’s sister, Shuri.

Jonsson’s casting represents the symbolic passing of the torch to a new generation. He was introduced as Prince T’Challa II in the second film; the third movie will see him mature and assume greater responsibilities.

David Jonsson is recognized for his performances in ‘The Long Walk,’ based on a work by Stephen King, ‘Alien: Romulus,’ and as Gus Sackey in ‘Industry.’
