Details of the Earthquakes
Two earthquakes hit Venezuela near 6 p.m. ET. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first quake, with a magnitude of 7.2, was centered near San Felipe, approximately 100 miles west of Caracas. A second quake, more intense at 7.5 magnitude, followed 39 seconds later near Yumare.
