Demi Vollering of the Netherlands claimed her second Women’s Tour de France title, concluding the event in Nice with a triumphant win in the ninth and final stage. Following the completion of the race, she raised her bike in celebration, finishing well ahead of her contender, Polish cyclist Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, who held the 2024 championship title.
Vollering started the last day of racing with a narrow advantage of eight seconds over Niewiadoma-Phinney. Her victory in the stage further confirmed her dominance as she secured a time bonus. With the finish line in sight, Vollering celebrated, signaling her mental prowess with a gesture to her head.
She completed the stage 1 minute and 4 seconds ahead of Spanish cyclist Paula Blasi Cairol and Niewiadoma-Phinney. Factoring in the time bonus, Vollering stood 1 minute and 18 seconds clear of Niewiadoma-Phinney in the overall standings.
Italian Elisa Longo Borghini took third place overall, trailing by 4 minutes and 29 seconds, as Marlen Reusser lost substantial time following a crash during the descent of the event’s second climb.
Niewiadoma-Phinney faced a significant challenge on the final climb, particularly with Vollering closely trailing her. Despite attempts to apply pressure, she could not unsettle Vollering. Vollering made a decisive move approximately 800 meters from the summit, distancing herself from Niewiadoma-Phinney.
This victory marked a notable redemption for Vollering, who lost her chance at a tour victory two years ago by finishing only four seconds behind Niewiadoma-Phinney in the final stage. This time, she decisively claimed the title, making her mark in this year’s edition.
