Francesca Hong, a Democratic socialist candidate for Wisconsin governor, is under renewed examination due to her past remarks about race and ‘whiteness.’ These comments have resurfaced online, sparking controversy. Hong, who has served in the Wisconsin State Assembly since 2021, spoke during a 2021 ListenMKE interview about her biracial son’s identity, stating, ‘My proximity to whiteness continues, right… My son is biracial. He is half-white and half-Korean. I think navigating what his identity is and how people perceive him is always at the back of my mind as well.’
As Hong campaigns for the gubernatorial position, past posts on X and interview excerpts have regained attention. These include her critical remarks about whiteness, bringing her stance on race and identity under scrutiny.

wrote Fox News contributor Paul Mauro on X, while Rick Esenberg, president of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty added,
It must be exhausting to have to think like this.
Fox News political analyst Guy Benson referred to the comments as
weirdo racism.
Fox News Digital reached out to Hong’s campaign regarding these past comments and the criticism they’ve received but did not receive a reply.
The renewed scrutiny follows Hong’s connection to prominent progressive figures, such as Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and socialist streamer Hasan Piker. She has been working alongside them, aligning her candidacy with a national progressive movement, viewed by Republicans as radical.
A rally held on Sunday required attendees to show photo ID, leading to accusations of hypocrisy due to opposition on the left to voter ID laws. Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany remarked on Twitter, pointing out the inconsistency of Hong’s stance on the matter.
The criticism continued as posts by Hong, seen to express anti-white sentiments, resurfaced. In one controversial post from July 2019, she mentioned an interaction at a Culver’s, feeling uneasy due to the presence of ‘old white people.’
Another post from May 2019 referred to her ramen bar experiences, relating to comments she found invasive regarding her heritage. Similarly, a 2021 post saw Hong stating,
Police exist to uphold white supremacy. Defund then abolish. Reform can’t be an option.
She expressed this in the context of her sympathy for the trauma experienced by the Blake family and their community.
