An East Texas sheriff’s deputy received a scare when a deer he thought was dead suddenly sprang to life. The incident, caught on a dashcam, quickly gained popularity online.
The video was shared on Facebook by Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace. He humorously noted that unexpected moments can ‘scare the heck out of a person.’ Wallace invited social media users to watch as the deputy approached what appeared to be a lifeless deer on the roadside.
The video shows the deputy examining what he thought was a motionless doe. As he reaches the animal, it suddenly jumps up, causing the deputy to scream and retreat swiftly to his vehicle. After the initial shock, the deputy can be heard laughing, saying, ‘OK, we’re good.’
The deer is last seen sitting up on the roadside before the video ends. Sheriff Wallace confirmed that the deer was unharmed and made its way into the nearby woods. He joked that the ‘suspect’ made a four-legged escape into the East Texas woods instead of receiving a citation.
Sheriff Wallace noted that the unexpected encounter is a reminder of the unpredictable nature of night shifts. The video resonated with audiences and has been viewed over 10 million times.
