Dominique Malonga of the Seattle Storm made headlines with her first-ever dunk in the WNBA All-Star Game. During Saturday night’s All-Star event, the 6-foot-6 center seized her opportunity with a memorable performance.
In the second quarter, Malonga received a pass from Atlanta Dream’s Angel Reese and executed a powerful dunk. This achievement marked Malonga as the seventh player in league history to dunk in an All-Star Game. The WNBA also noted that, at 20 years old, she is the youngest player ever to record a dunk in this annual showcase.
The game, held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, also saw Malonga become the first player to achieve a slam dunk in an All-Star Game since Sylvia Fowles did so in 2022.
Despite having completed 63 regular-season games with the Storm without a dunk, her ability to perform above the rim is well-known. Malonga has showcased her dunking skills while playing in European leagues and tournaments such as Unrivaled.
Following her selection as the second overall pick in last year’s draft, Malonga quickly demonstrated her capability by dunking during her debut practice with the Seattle team.
Before the game commenced, her teammate, Storm guard Flau’jae Johnson, humorously threatened not to speak with Malonga if she failed to dunk during the match.
In her second WNBA season, Malonga averages 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
