Donnie Wahlberg’s Close Call: A Dramatic Day on the Runway

Donnie Wahlberg expresses his surprise at the continued celebration of New Kids on the Block Day, established by former Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis, on April 24.

Recently, Wahlberg shared gratitude for avoiding a significant accident when a private jet carrying him and seven others skidded off the runway at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. After performing with New Kids on the Block for their Las Vegas residency’s final show, Wahlberg detailed the incident on social media.

“Receiving many concerned messages about my flight’s failed departure from Las Vegas today. I’m grateful for your concern and wishes,” Wahlberg wrote. He made a video for family and friends, noting his fans are also like family, and shared it with them.

“Yes, I and my team were on board. Those moments felt incredibly long,” Wahlberg explained.

He elaborated that the plane never managed to become airborne, stating, “We attempted to take off but didn’t manage to ascend, running out of runway.”

After the incident, Wahlberg, accompanied by his wife Jenny McCarthy, described the event as intense and credited the pilots and God for their safety.

“These pilots saved our lives,” Wahlberg remarked. “We narrowly avoided multiple obstacles and didn’t hit all of them.” He added that the plane barely missed trucks and other equipment near the runway’s end.

Expression of faith continued, with Wahlberg stating, “God is good. Though we didn’t take off, we’re safe and grateful.” He praised the pilots and the emergency response, acknowledging their vital roles in preventing a disaster.

“All glory to God! By His grace, everyone is fine,” Wahlberg said.

Jenny McCarthy responded to her husband’s post, exclaiming, “God is so good!”

Monika Bertaki, a spokesperson for Harry Reid International Airport, confirmed the aircraft skidded off runway 1L, impacting the perimeter fence around 11 a.m. No injuries were reported, though runways were temporarily closed for inspection, causing possible delays.

After inspections, both runways reopened. An air traffic control recording captured the moment, with a voice declaring, “Aborting. Aborting,” followed by an emergency vehicle dispatch confirmation. Wahlberg’s representative offered no immediate comments on the event.
