DoorDash Driver Survives Brutal Attack in North Carolina

Christen Phillips, a mother of three, is recovering in a hospital from a severe brain injury. She suffered multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds after an attack while making a DoorDash delivery. Deputies report that her assailant, identified as Stanley Shockley, 44, is now in custody.

The incident occurred in broad daylight in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says Shockley pursued Phillips as she delivered food. Starting at an intersection on August 1, Shockley was in front of Phillips’ vehicle when she honked, indicating her wish for him to move forward.

According to investigators, after the honk, Shockley began following her. When Phillips parked to deliver the order, Shockley reportedly attacked her with a small wooden bat upon her return to her car, then fled the scene.

Despite the serious injuries, Phillips managed to drive herself to a nearby hospital. She shared that she sustained multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds, and a fractured cheekbone, leading to several surgeries.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shockley on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. Sheriff Chris Thomas emphasized the comprehensive work of detectives in gathering evidence and following leads, which resulted in the arrest.
