The EF3 tornado that swept through Menasha left significant destruction in its path. It was one of five tornadoes that occurred Monday, stretching from Wisconsin to Kentucky and resulting in power outages for nearly 250,000 people.
Residents of Menasha bore witness to the aftermath as they passed by damaged homes on Tuesday. The tornado had torn through the area just the day before.
A Near-Fatal Experience
Jean Woelfel had only just begun her drive from Menasha to Neenah when the tornado struck. The sudden force of the storm lifted her truck and sent it flipping through the air.
Images from the scene captured by Mark Hoffman for the Milwaukee Journal and USA Today Network show the extent of the damage. These photographs highlight the challenges now facing the community in the wake of the disaster.
