Transgender actor Elliot Page shared in a podcast that acting opportunities became scarce after his role in “The Odyssey” by Christopher Nolan. Page suggested this was due to Hollywood’s altered perception following his public transition in 2020.
Page spoke about how his career changed post-transition, indicating he might need to actively develop and propose projects to filmmakers. “Before, I was seen one way; now, it’s different,” Page noted. He acknowledged finding casting more challenging now for evident reasons, jesting about his Canadian identity.
Elliot Page remarked that the success of “The Odyssey” didn’t translate into more offers; the film was a significant hit. Lisa Cusack, Don’t L.A. My Burbank PAC president, commented on Hollywood’s need to focus less on political messaging, emphasizing entertainment should cater to audience desires. She asserted that viewers pay to see their dreams, not political narratives.
Before its release, Nolan’s “The Odyssey” faced criticism over casting choices, including Page as Sinon. Despite controversy, it emerged as one of 2026’s major successes, grossing over $1.5 billion globally by September.
Page expressed a continued passion for acting, feeling more at ease in roles now. Reflecting on his career, Page stated, “I might deliver my best work now,” citing gratitude for his past engaging roles. While 2026 posed challenges for the film industry, “The Odyssey” thrived with substantial earnings, despite fewer tickets sold compared to pre-pandemic figures.
