The England men’s national team has landed in West Palm Beach, Florida to commence their training ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The heat in Florida will play a vital role in their preparations as numerous host cities across the United States are expected to have similar weather conditions.
Innovative Cooling Techniques
England players are set to use high-tech palm-cooling devices in the United States to help combat heat during the World Cup. Research indicates these devices can significantly lower core body temperature, enhancing both recovery and performance.
Sami Mokbel from BBC Sport reported that England intends to utilize these devices both in training and during official water breaks during matches. This innovation is seen as crucial due to the challenging conditions projected in many host cities.
Heat Concerns and Match Schedule
NPR has highlighted concerns that 67 of the 104 scheduled matches may pose risks for heat-related illnesses. Out of these, 39 matches are labeled as high risk.
England’s World Cup journey will begin against Croatia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on June 17. Despite the forecast predicting a high of 90 degrees with a ‘realfeel’ of 97 degrees, the stadium’s roof is expected to mitigate heat issues.
The team will continue their Group L competition by playing against Ghana at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on June 23, following up with a match versus Panama at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on June 27.
In their previous World Cup outing in 2022, England reached the quarterfinals. The current squad aims to match or surpass that performance. England is currently holding the third-best odds to win their first World Cup since 1966.
