Recent weather patterns have brought unprecedented heat and drought conditions to Europe, impacting both the environment and water resources. This summer, Europe faced a series of record heat domes, which initially began with an extreme late-spring heat wave.
As these heat domes persisted, they transformed Europe’s typically green landscapes into dry and dusty terrains. Water levels in major rivers such as the Seine, Rhine, and Danube have been alarmingly low. These conditions have raised concerns about the region’s water supply and ecological health.
The European Space Programme reports that the drought has been severe, with rivers experiencing record-low levels. The combination of sustained heat and lack of rainfall has put tremendous pressure on agricultural activities and water management systems throughout the continent.
