During the third quarter of Thursday night’s game between the Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever, a disruption occurred when two men were escorted from their seats by security. The incident was initiated by Aces’ player Jackie Young, who pointed out the men to a referee.
With 4:38 left in the third quarter, the game was halted as Young spoke with the referee and signaled for security. A woman seated in the front row was initially escorted out through the tunnel. However, she returned shortly, and two men seated nearby were removed instead.
After the Aces’ 86-84 overtime win, Young explained that one of the men had been making comments throughout the game and had crossed a line with his remarks. “He was just chirping all game,” she said. “I let him have it, and then he just made one that was a little bit too far.” Young chose to keep the specifics of the comments private.
“I think we’ll just keep it in here,” Young stated when asked about the fan’s comments.
A statement from the Fever later clarified the situation. Arena security engaged with the fan and witnesses and found no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct. The fan chose to leave voluntarily. “Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses. Security determined there was no violation,” a statement reported by Yahoo Sports indicated.
The game itself was a memorable contest. Chelsea Gray’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer sent the game into overtime. She also made the game-winning 3-pointer to secure the Aces’ victory with a final score of 86-84. Young finished with 22 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and five fouls in the intense matchup.
Young emphasized the importance of respecting players during games. “They did the right thing,” she remarked regarding the fan removal. “Obviously, we don’t want to see fans get kicked out, but at the end of the day, we’re human too. So let’s just show up to games, have fun, and not take it too far.”
