FBI agents fatally shot a man in West Garfield Park on Thursday, who court records allege was part of a bank robbery crew. This group is believed to be involved in several recent robberies in suburban areas. The individual, identified as Abdulhafedh Abdulhafedh, aged 25, was released from prison less than six months ago after a conviction for robbing a bank in Will County.
Court records indicate Abdulhafedh had an active arrest warrant in DuPage County for possession of a stolen vehicle, following an earlier arrest in Elmhurst. While his home address is unknown, the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed that Abdulhafedh died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling it a homicide. The shooting took place around 3 p.m. on the 3700 block of West Lexington Street.
An FBI spokesperson stated that agents stopped a vehicle linked to a violent bank robbery. In connected court filings, Abdulhafedh is mentioned as “Co-Conspirator A” in connection to Dayvon Walton, who authorities believe is the leader of the “100K gang.” This gang has allegedly executed or attempted several bank robberies in the Chicago area. Notably, one robbery occurred at a BMO Harris bank in St. Charles on April 21.
A social media video shows an individual firing from the sunroof of a vehicle on Lexington Street. The affidavit indicates that Walton and two associates were in a black SUV driven by Abdulhafedh when agents stopped them. While Walton and the others fled on foot, Abdulhafedh remained in the vehicle.
The video depicts agents standing by as the SUV attempted to escape. They deployed a flash grenade, shattering the sunroof, prompting the driver to shoot at agents, who then returned fire. The FBI emphasized that all shooting incidents involving their agents are taken seriously. This case is currently under review by the agency’s Inspection Division, and the FBI has not disclosed additional information.
The affidavit also states Walton was apprehended later on Thursday. He reportedly waived his right to an attorney and confessed to participating in the April 21 robbery, along with an attempted robbery on April 6 in Niles. Abdulhafedh’s criminal record shows a 2023 conviction in Will County for bank robbery, resulting in a four-year prison sentence. He was also convicted in Cook County for vehicle theft and aggravated fleeing and received a three-year sentence.
His criminal history includes convictions for burglary, theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. Abdulhafedh’s parole was set for January 8, 2026.
