Lexi Alexander, a filmmaker with German-Palestinian-American heritage, recently stirred controversy on social media. Her X post appeared to endorse the death of Erin Piacenti, a Bank of America executive, referencing Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing a CEO.
Piacenti tragically died after a stabbing incident in New York City’s Times Square. Another person was injured by a knife-wielding woman before police intervened, killing the suspect. Piacenti had been back at work for only a week after caring for her newborn.
Alexander, known for her work on films like “Green Street Hooligans,” shared a post highlighting the incident. She used an edited image of Batman with Mangione’s face and dismissed critics, implying they were involved in a “hasbara,” or pro-Israel PR campaign.
Her post, marked as “sensitive content,” remains accessible. In further responses, Alexander linked to an article on Bank of America’s support for Israel, maintaining her stance amidst backlash.
The controversy around Alexander’s comments draws parallels with reactions following the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. Journalist Douglas Murray discussed the trend of justifying violence, especially by far-left Americans, mentioning incidents involving Thompson and others.
Murray questioned why violence is being excused and stressed the need to confront this issue, noting support from some politicians as well.
