Fitness influencer and trainer Mark Langowski, known on social media as @bodybymark, hosted a dynamic pushup and plank competition in New York City. He called on the public to get active. With nearly two million followers on Instagram, Langowski encourages fitness enthusiasts to share their workout routines. The event, held in Washington Square Park on May 12, in partnership with Oikos yogurt, attracted many fitness-minded New Yorkers.

The competition honored the male and female entrants who achieved the most push-ups or held a plank for the longest duration with a $500 prize each. More than financial rewards, Langowski emphasized that the real goal was to inspire more people to move. He shared with Fox News Digital that this initiative aims to promote strength and overall fitness in New York City and beyond.

Participants engaged in plank and pushup contests. Langowski noted a participant completing 111 pushups. The event was about activating and engaging people. Langowski mentioned that good competitors possess strength, humility, and confidence. He pointed out that those who excelled often did not overstate their abilities. Some participants claimed they could perform 150 pushups but achieved 70. Humility plays a role in being a successful competitor.

Pushups and planks offer a reliable measure of one’s fitness level. Basic exercises like pull-ups, squats, and running a mile also contribute to a well-rounded fitness assessment, similar to those exercises included in school fitness tests.

If you want to improve your fitness and haven’t mastered these basics, Langowski offers practical advice. He recommends getting guidance from a trainer or someone knowledgeable who can help you progress. He advises starting with pushups on your knees or against a wall, then gradually advancing to standard pushups.

“You’ll be surprised after practicing for a while,” Langowski shared. “Everyone starts somewhere.”

In addition to consistent practice, proper rest, adequate protein intake, and an overall healthy diet support muscle growth and recovery. However, starting the journey is crucial. Motivation is key. Langowski understands that some people find it daunting to begin after a period of inactivity.

Walking around the block can be a simple starting point, requiring no gym equipment. Many achieve good fitness levels with at-home workouts. Langowski notes that squats, lunges, and pushups can all be done without a gym membership.

He encourages people to initiate their fitness journey with friends or trainers to ensure safety and support. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of community and motivation.
