Florida has successfully conducted a massive child rescue operation, recovering 163 missing children from ages 2 months to 17 years across multiple continents. This significant effort was part of Operation Statewide Shield, as announced by Attorney General James Uthmeier.
Throughout mid-August, Florida law enforcement collaborated with federal and international agencies to track and recover these children. The rescue mission identified children who had run away, been abandoned, neglected, abused, or trafficked.
A substantial portion of the operation involved arresting three individuals connected to suspected child abuse—Jayden Allen Harwood, Robert Ferral Allison, and Michael Corey Prescott. These arrests were made by local law enforcement as part of the initiative’s targeting suspected child abusers.
The operation marked Florida’s first statewide child recovery initiative, making it the largest effort of its kind in the state’s history. Attorney General Uthmeier emphasized the importance of the operation in safeguarding children and providing them with necessary care.
Rescuers located children in various locations, including states such as Florida, Alabama, California, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Tennessee. International recoveries occurred in countries like Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Italy, and Taiwan.
Michael Prescott, one of the arrested individuals, faced multiple charges including lewd acts with a minor, felony battery, and aggravated assault. Robert Ferral Allison and Jayden Allen Harwood were charged with offenses involving child custody interference and battery.
As children were rescued, law enforcement officers coordinated transport to hubs where social services workers, medical providers, and victim advocates offered resources and support. Several children were reunited with families, while others entered foster care.
The closure of these cases with the Missing and Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse highlights the operation’s success. FDLE directed the operation using strategies developed from previous child recovery missions by U.S. Marshals.
The operation received strategic support from entities including the Office of Statewide Prosecution, Department of Children and Families, and Department of Juvenile Justice, alongside significant contributions from municipal law enforcement agencies and 13 Florida sheriff’s offices.
