Former Anchor Sentenced to Life for Mother’s Murder

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor in St. Louis, has received a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of her mother last Halloween in Kansas. She will become eligible for parole after serving 25 years, as determined by a Sedgwick County District Court judge, according to reports from KWCH.

Mock entered into a plea agreement and faced charges of first-degree murder. The tragic incident occurred on October 31, 2025, when officers found 80-year-old Anita Avers, suffering from multiple stab wounds, inside her Wichita residence. She lived there with Mock and Mock’s stepfather.

A probable cause affidavit revealed Mock made statements suggesting she viewed her mother as the devil and believed the act was necessary to “save herself.” Her stepfather disclosed to KAKE-TV that Mock had been diagnosed with mental illness, including delusions and depression. Further analysis suggested she might have suffered from bipolar disorder, later suspected to be schizoaffective disorder.

Despite the mental health claims, a judge declared Mock competent to stand trial in July. In August, she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Angelynn Mock, once a Fox 2 KTVI news anchor and reporter in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015, transitioned to software sales, as indicated on her LinkedIn profile. Prior to her tenure in St. Louis, she served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
