Former CIA Director John Brennan has received a subpoena to testify before a Florida grand jury. This is part of a Justice Department investigation into potential conspiracies by former law enforcement and intelligence officials against former President Donald Trump.
Attorney Ken Wainstein, representing Brennan, shared in a court filing that the subpoena was issued last Thursday. Brennan is expected to appear on October 15 in Fort Pierce, Florida. The investigation is broad, looking into whether officials who investigated Trump conspired to infringe upon his civil rights.

Brennan has been known as a vocal critic of Trump from the Obama administration era. According to Wainstein, Brennan is also a target in a separate Washington investigation concerning allegations of lying to Congress in 2023, which Brennan denies.
This subpoena coincides with a leadership change within the investigation. Joe diGenova, the lead prosecutor for the grand conspiracy inquiry, resigned suddenly. The Justice Department has not announced a successor. Wainstein mentioned speaking with Kurt Olsen, a lawyer involved in the investigation and connected to the 2020 election-related claims.
The subpoena disclosure happened shortly before a court hearing in Washington related to a lawsuit by Brennan. Brennan is seeking a court order to preserve records of the investigations concerning him, arguing their importance for challenging any charges of vindictive prosecution.
