France, known as Les Bleus, has impressed in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. They scored at least three goals in each of their first four matches. Recently, Kylian Mbappe scored twice leading France to a 3-0 victory over Sweden in the Round of 32 on June 30. This performance strengthens the belief that France is a dominant team, making their World Cup opponents face a challenging task.
Lamine Yamal, an 18-year-old from Spain, is unfazed by France’s performance. “They haven’t beaten us since the Euros,” Yamal told Juanma Castaño in an interview for El Partidazo de Cope. “They can’t be better than us.”
Yamal views France’s group stage success as less significant because he believes the World Cup truly begins with the knockout stage. He acknowledges France’s strong form but sees no clear favorite. “When a competition comes up, I think I’m going to win it,” said the Barcelona player. “I think we’re going to win the World Cup this year. The Champions League will be harder because I believe we will win the World Cup.”
The World Cup is Yamal’s first, and he scored his debut goal for Spain against Saudi Arabia on June 21. Recovering from a hamstring injury, he told Castaño he feels 80-90% ready and can play the full 90 minutes against Austria in the Round of 32 on July 2. With injuries affecting the team, Spain will rely on Yamal’s performance.
If Spain defeats Austria, they will face either Croatia or Portugal in the Round of 16 on July 6.
