A Mexican man, Arnoldo Jimenez, alleged to have killed his wife on their wedding night in Illinois, has been extradited to the United States. The FBI confirmed his return on Thursday, more than a year after his arrest in Mexico. Jimenez, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted, spent over a decade on the run before his capture.
Jimenez was apprehended on January 30, 2025, by Mexican authorities collaborating with U.S. law enforcement in Monterrey, Mexico. At the time of his arrest, he was the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the United States.

The FBI Chicago office remarked on this significant event, emphasizing their commitment to justice. A statement from the FBI highlighted their relentless efforts, asserting that they will pursue criminals irrespective of time or location.
Details of the Crime
The authorities allege Jimenez murdered his wife, Estrella Carrera, aged 26, on their wedding night. Carrera was found deceased in the bathtub of her Burbank, Illinois apartment on May 13, 2012, within 48 hours of their marriage.
Jimenez faced charges of first-degree murder, with a state warrant issued on May 15, 2012. This was followed by a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The authorities have yet to reveal a motive for the crime or announce a date for Jimenez’s court appearance.
