George Santos Faces Federal Investigation for Kalshi Trades

Former U.S. Representative George Santos is under investigation for trading activities on the prediction market Kalshi. Authorities allege he profited by misleading the public about attending former President Trump’s State of the Union address in February.

When the news broke, Santos, known for his history of deceptive actions, contacted the reporter from a blocked number. He vehemently denied the story’s accuracy, claiming his legal team found no investigation. Despite Santos’s denial, the story, corroborated by multiple sources, revealed that Kalshi referred the case to federal authorities in New York and Washington, D.C.

During their conversation, Santos displayed hostility and refused to disclose his legal representation, stating instead, “I’m George f*cking Santos, of course I have a legal team.” The discussion escalated with Santos making a disturbing remark, “This story is going to get you a gun in your face.” He later retracted this threat in a text message, insisting he had said the story would “blow up in your face.”

Santos’s denial went public on social media, where he attempted to discredit the journalist by suggesting they were fabricating the encounter. He characterized himself as never being “aggressive” or “threatening” towards reporters.

Threats against journalists are not rare, often coming from online sources or aggressive legal teams. The situation with Santos raised questions about whether the threat was exaggerated or serious. Given Santos’s history of deceit and his subsequent denial tactics, setting the record straight became necessary.

Following the report, additional developments occurred. Polymarket, a competitor to Kalshi, cut ties with Santos, who had previously promoted some of its prediction markets. Additionally, Santos offered a discounted rate for personalized videos on Cameo, showcasing his attempts to maintain a public presence.
