Representative Madeleine Dean from Pennsylvania expressed concerns on ‘News Central’ regarding Graham Platner’s candidacy for Maine’s U.S. Senate race. Dean stated that Platner has ‘disqualified himself’ following the emergence of various allegations.
Platner, an oyster farmer and combat veteran, has entered the race for the Democratic nomination to contest Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Yet, reports have surfaced involving allegations from Lyndsey Fifield, a former girlfriend. Fifield claimed Platner’s past actions included physical confrontations and emotional distress during their relationship over ten years ago.
Platner has publicly addressed these allegations, stating that any further characterizations are false. He suggested the claims might be politically motivated.
In addition to these allegations, Platner has faced scrutiny for previously sending explicit messages, having a controversial tattoo, and making dismissive comments about military sexual assault on Reddit.
Maine Governor Janet Mills remains on the Democratic primary ballot, despite suspending her active campaign. The state’s deputy secretary of state confirmed votes for Mills will still count. Mills stated she remains an option for voters.
In a broader interview, Dean also covered U.S. foreign policy, criticizing the Trump administration’s approach to Iran. She emphasized the importance of diplomacy in preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Regarding a proposed immigration bill, Dean voiced opposition to the $1.8 billion ‘weaponization fund’ and additional funding to ICE, asserting the agency requires no further financial support.
