Greene Criticizes Trump’s Military Actions

Former Republican U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized President Donald Trump and his team during a CNN appearance with Kaitlan Collins. She argued that his staff made him appear foolish by not counteracting his past statements about avoiding wars. Greene highlighted Trump’s campaign promises to prevent new wars and foreign military engagements.

Her comments came as the Trump administration justified military actions around the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command, Trump authorized retaliatory strikes after a U.S. Apache helicopter incident near the strategic waterway. U.S. officials attributed the incident to Iran, although uncertainty lingered regarding whether the attack was deliberate or involved a collision with an Iranian drone.

Newsweek contacted the White House for comment on Wednesday night.

Background on Greene’s Criticism

Greene’s criticism is significant because she was once a staunch Trump ally before distancing herself over the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump has also criticized Greene, calling her “wacky.” During an interview with ABC’s Kristen Welker, Trump responded to a question about no new wars by emphasizing military strength.

“This war shouldn’t be happening,” Greene said regarding Trump’s campaign promise to avoid foreign wars. She stressed that Trump’s repeated public statements, captured on video, reflected his commitment to ending such conflicts. She criticized Trump’s team for failing to remind him of these promises, suggesting it undermines his credibility.

Greene stated, “Shame on his team for not showing him those videos of what he said and what he promised to the American people.”

She noted the disparity between Trump’s past anti-war stance and recent military actions has become an issue within his political base. Greene emphasized that the internet does not forget, and past videos are readily available.

New Strikes Against Iran

On Wednesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced additional self-defense strikes on targets in Iran, responding to what they labeled as “unwarranted and continued aggression.” In a statement, CENTCOM countered claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that the Strait of Hormuz was closed, affirming that commercial ships continued transit activities.

Fox News’ Trey Yingst reported that Iranian officials contacted Trump, asking to halt the bombings. Trump reportedly indicated the strikes would soon end.
