Hayden Panettiere died at 36 from the toxic effects of multiple drugs, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The substances included fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. Her death was classified as accidental.
A 911 call reported a cardiac arrest at 701 Easley Bridge Road in Greenville on August 16, 2026. Emergency services arrived and performed advanced cardiac life support, but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. She was declared dead at 2:32 PM.
The coroner’s office worked with the Greenville City Police Department to investigate. Panettiere, residing temporarily in Greenville, was found unresponsive in her home. An autopsy, performed by a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist, showed no trauma contributing to the death.
Her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother Zach called 911 after discovering her. Hickerson provided medication Panettiere was taking. The police report noted Zach’s emotional reaction and Hickerson’s lack of emotion until she was pronounced dead.
Hickerson had traveled from Los Angeles with Panettiere the previous day. The couple had a brief separation in 2022 but reconciled in 2023. Hickerson’s relationship with Panettiere was confirmed by his brother.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also joined the investigation. Panettiere’s representatives criticized rumors and speculation about her death, stating it was disrespectful and urged the public to provide any legitimate information directly to law enforcement.
Her representatives asserted there were key details yet undisclosed, affirming cooperation with the investigation to ensure justice.
