Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton avoided a direct endorsement of Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner when questioned recently. Speaking at an event hosted by 92NY, Clinton expressed a cautious approach regarding Platner’s campaign.
“I want to see what kind of candidate he actually turns out to be,” Clinton said, indicating a wait-and-see approach. She referred to Platner’s controversies as “bumps on the road,” potentially minimizing their impact on his character.
Clinton attended the event in New York City with David Remnick from The New Yorker, discussing the challenges Platner faces, including those from incumbent Maine Senator Susan Collins, mentioning, “It’s going to be a tough election.”
When asked whether she would vote for Platner if she were a resident of Maine, Clinton said, “I’m a New Yorker,” sidestepping a direct answer.
Clinton’s comments come amid ongoing scandals surrounding Platner. These include allegations related to past behavior, inappropriate communications, and other misconduct. Platner’s campaign has been under scrutiny following these revelations reported by the New York Times, mentioning new accusations involving ex-girlfriends.
Despite these issues, some Democrats continue to support Platner’s campaign. Others remain silent about the controversies although they do not publicly denounce him either.
Reclaiming the House of Representatives in 2026 remains a priority for the Democratic Party, a topic Clinton highlighted during her talk.
Fox News Digital attempted to contact Platner’s campaign for their perspective on the matter.
