Football attracts bettors for several reasons. Fans tend to watch any game available, not limited to just their favorite teams. It is also common for teams to experience significant changes from season to season. Some improve after a losing year, while others falter after a successful one. The Houston Texans, having had a strong season last year, face questions about whether they will continue that trend.
Last Season’s Performance
The Texans ended last season with a 12-5 record, overcoming an 0-3 start. Despite being 3-5 by Week 9, the team’s offense gained momentum and their defense remained steady. A nine-game winning streak earned them a spot in the postseason, where they secured a road victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, quarterback CJ Stroud struggled significantly in the following game against the New England Patriots, throwing four interceptions and completing less than half of his passes, resulting in a 28-16 loss.
Offseason Changes
The Texans focused on securing Will Anderson, who delivered an impressive performance last year. He remains crucial to the team. Despite the clear need, they did not make significant upgrades to their offensive line. Instead, they brought in David Montgomery, an older running back whose role had diminished in Detroit.
Roster and Expectations
The Texans’ success this season will largely depend on their defense, which features young and talented players. In the first half of last season, they were among the league’s best. This year, the defense is expected to maintain its strong performance. If the offensive line unexpectedly improves, CJ Stroud might have more opportunities to deliver effective plays. Concerns persist in the backfield, with limited expectations for improvement. Questions also arise regarding the team’s faith in Stroud, as his contract was not extended, while Davis Mills had a comparable performance, winning three games last year.
Betting Outlook
The Texans’ projected win total stands at 9.5, and the over is considered a viable option. Despite a challenging schedule, with opening games against Buffalo and Cincinnati, a minimum of four wins by the bye week is plausible. Securing six additional victories in the remaining ten games is challenging, yet feasible, especially with a robust defense.
