The relationship between Serbia and the United States has seen significant changes during President Donald Trump’s tenure. President Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia highlighted this shift, noting a transformation in public perception among Serbians. The memories of the 1999 NATO bombing are still strong, yet there is a growing positive sentiment towards the U.S.
In an interview, Vučić praised President Trump’s strategy of focusing on economic issues rather than political pressure in the Balkans. This approach has resonated with many Serbs. Vučić claimed that a majority of Serbians prefer the Trump administration over previous U.S. administrations, suggesting a stark contrast in approval.
The comparison between the Trump administration and past administrations, especially under President Clinton, is notable. The administration’s emphasis on economic cooperation has been more acceptable to the Serbian public, influencing a more favorable view.
Vučić stated that Serbia is keen on hosting Trump, expecting a warm reception during a potential visit. He anticipates that a surprisingly large number of people would welcome the U.S. president.
