By October 12, 2026, at 6:39 PM EDT, CBS Atlanta reported a tragic event at Six Flags Over Georgia. A roller coaster incident resulted in one fatality and injuries to several guests. Cobb County Police Department confirmed the event occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday.

The police did not specify which ride was involved. However, CBS News Atlanta captured footage showing the Goliath roller coaster shut down, with guests being evacuated via an emergency stairway on the ride’s largest hill.

Information remains scarce, and authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased guest. Six Flags expressed deep sorrow over the incident through a spokesperson, offering thoughts and condolences to the affected families. The park is also providing support to both guests and staff impacted by the situation. The park’s team and local authorities responded promptly, with full cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Mableton Mayor Michael Owens mentioned that the city’s public safety director is working with Cobb County police and park officials in response to the event. The Goliath, a significant attraction of the park, stands at 200 feet high and features a 170-foot drop, reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour. It first opened in 2006.

In related news, Six Flags recently announced the permanent closure of its X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. This decision followed multiple lawsuits alleging over 100 riders sustained brain injuries due to the ride.
