The Indiana Fever rebounded strongly with a 96–77 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, the top team in the league, on Tuesday. This was their final game of the regular season at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Key to the Fever’s success was a robust performance from their starters and the absence of Olivia Miles from the Lynx due to a calf injury. The Fever established an early lead, creating a 23-point gap by halftime. This was the largest deficit the Lynx faced this season. Although the Lynx rallied in the third quarter with help from their reserves, they could not regain the lead.
Myisha Hines-Allen was pivotal for the Fever, showcasing skillful play. Olivia Miles’ absence, a standout player for the Lynx, was notable. Sophie Cunningham energized the Fever with a prominent role, contrasting with her limited playtime in the previous game against Washington.
Caitlin Clark almost landed a triple-double, scoring 27 points and adding nine rebounds and seven assists. Clark, along with Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, were instrumental, combining for 67 points. Mitchell continued her remarkable streak with her 27th game scoring 20 or more points.
I thought our third quarter was a bit sloppy,
Clark remarked post-game but applauded their offensive pace and play.
Following a tough loss to Washington, this victory provided a significant morale boost right before the playoffs. The Fever aim to secure home-court advantage in the first playoff round. Their final regular-season game is another face-off with the Lynx, this time on Minnesota’s court.
Makayla Timpson contributed crucial rebounds in the game against the Lynx.
