Kelsey Mitchell led the Indiana Fever with a remarkable performance, scoring 20 of her 28 points in the first half. Caitlin Clark contributed significantly, adding 22 points and 10 assists. This collaboration steered the Fever to a 106-92 victory over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Indiana’s momentum continued to build as the team secured its seventh win in nine games. The victory came after a spirited pregame speech from coach Stephanie White, who addressed the distractions she believes have overshadowed the WNBA. Her words seemed to inspire the team.
The Fever demonstrated exceptional shooting, hitting 59% from the field and a staggering 79% from 3-point range. They secured a 64-46 halftime lead against a strong New York team, which had won eight of its previous nine games since their last loss to Indiana.
Kelsey Mitchell was prolific, sinking 11 of 16 shots. Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham also shone, each hitting four 3-pointers. Cunningham finished with 12 points, and Aliyah Boston added 19 points and seven rebounds.
For the Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 19 points, while Jonquel Jones added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana gained an edge with a 15-7 run late in the second quarter, widening their lead to 54-37.
The game saw some tension when Indiana’s 3-point shooting cooled in the third quarter. New York tried to capitalize, narrowing the gap to 66-57 with 6:51 remaining. However, the Fever quickly regained control. Mitchell’s three-point play and a decisive 3-pointer from Cunningham pushed the score to 87-67 by the end of the period.
Indiana maintained their composure in the final minutes, ensuring New York never got close again. The victory reinforced the Fever’s strong form and highlighted their offensive prowess.
