A friend of Nathalia Filgueiras, the 20-year-old co-pilot involved in the tragic Learjet crash in Florida, shared her reaction to Filgueiras’ harrowing final moments. Filgueiras made a desperate mayday call as the Learjet 60 plummeted over Palm Beach County, Florida.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras and Mikaela Schluth are seen together in an undated photograph. Filgueiras was co-piloting the jet that left Austin, Texas, headed for the Bahamas on November 1. The crash tragically resulted in the deaths of all nine passengers on board.
During the radio communication, Filgueiras urgently conveyed, “722 Bravo Delta, we’re descending 8,000. Mayday, Mayday, we’re descending 10,000 feet per minute!” This distress call was deeply impactful for her friend, Schluth, who has known Filgueiras since middle school. She described it as “the worst thing” she had ever heard.
The Learjet 60 ultimately burst into flames. Filgueiras reported their speed and altitude to air traffic control, announcing that the plane was “out of time” moments before the inevitable crash occurred.
“I’m just so proud of how she handled it and was able to stay calm and give information,” Schluth said, commending her friend’s composure and professionalism even in such dire circumstances.
This incident involved other individuals, including Filgueiras’ boyfriend, whom she texted shortly before the crash. There were also victims identified as a tech entrepreneur, his young children, wife, and nanny.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has disclosed chilling details about the crash as it investigates Filgueiras’ role. The investigation continues, and the public is advised to stay updated on further developments.
