The family of Jenny Lupton, a flight attendant from Moore, Oklahoma, has shared details regarding her last text message before her tragic death in Hawaii. Lupton, age 50, was found deceased on August 20 following a fall from a hotel balcony in Waikiki. Her family has expressed doubts about the possibility of suicide and is advocating for a comprehensive investigation.
The Honolulu Police Department is actively investigating Lupton’s death. According to police, detectives are conducting interviews, analyzing surveillance footage, and collecting evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and no conclusions have been drawn about the circumstances surrounding Lupton’s passing.
“This is a thorough investigation that will take time,” stated the police department. “Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process.”
Lupton’s niece, Hannah Lupton, shared that her aunt appeared to be enjoying her stay in Hawaii. Jenny had been dancing, gotten a tattoo, and made plans with colleagues prior to her passing. Hannah mentioned that Jenny had sent a text message to a fellow flight attendant asking, “What are we doing tomorrow?” This was her last text message, sent after a message to her family at around 11:40 p.m. on August 19.
Emergency services responded to an incident at the Hilton Hawaiian Village around 7:15 a.m. on August 20, where Lupton was declared dead. The medical examiner has yet to release the cause or manner of her death.
The Honolulu Police Department emphasized the importance of relying on verified information from official sources. They have advised the public to refrain from sharing unverified details that might cause concern or confusion.
“On behalf of Jenny Lupton’s family, we ask for patience as detectives conduct this investigation and respectfully request that the family’s privacy be honored during this difficult time,” the department stated.
Hannah Lupton revealed that the only confirmed fact is Lupton’s fall from her hotel balcony. She expressed uncertainty about whether Jenny was unconscious prior to the fall or if injuries resulted from it. The family strongly believes that foul play or an unfortunate accident may be involved rather than suicide.
Jenny is being remembered fondly by her family and friends. Hannah Lupton praised her aunt on Facebook, describing her as the life of the party and a person who brought joy to any room. Community members have shared stories about Jenny that evoke laughter, tears, and gratitude for having known her.
Travis Rodriguez, who created a GoFundMe to support Jenny’s family, including her 15-year-old son, told Newsweek about the deep impact Jenny had on those she interacted with throughout her career and life.
“Jenny’s legacy lives on in the memories being shared, in the tears being shed, in the people who have come together, and in the love that continues to surround her family. Jenny was loved. Her life mattered. And she will never be forgotten,” Rodriguez said.
Southwest Airlines has expressed sorrow over Jenny Lupton’s passing and has extended condolences and support to her family and colleagues. The airline is collaborating with local authorities during their investigation.
