A mural depicting Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was prominently displayed at Valiasr Square in central Tehran over the weekend. The shift in leadership suggests a potential for stronger confrontations under the new administration.
The new leadership team includes a former commander known for his outspoken views. Also among the appointees is an individual who directed a harsh crackdown on domestic protests. Another key figure has been instrumental in guiding the Revolutionary Guard in its confrontations against the United States. This overhaul comes as the Islamic Republic seems poised to adopt tougher policies at home and abroad.
