The NFL season is nearing, and Ja’Marr Chase from the Cincinnati Bengals stands out as a top wide receiver in the league. Last season, Chase ranked third in the NFL with 125 receptions and fourth with 1,412 receiving yards. He was tied for 11th in receiving touchdowns, scoring eight.
Chase has set an ambitious goal for the upcoming season. He aims to achieve 23 touchdowns, as he shared in an interview with NFL Network, “Honestly, man, the only goal that I have for myself going forward is to get 23 touchdowns. I want to break the record with that.” He emphasized his commitment to improving daily and helping his team get better each day.
“That’s not my full goal every day. My goal is to be better the next day than the last day. Try to get my team better than what they was the last day,” he also shared.
The record Chase refers to is the single-season receiving touchdown record set by Randy Moss in 2007 with the New England Patriots. To break this, Chase needs at least 24 touchdowns in the coming season. In 2024, Chase had a career-high of 17 touchdowns with the Bengals, so his target seems within reach.
Having Joe Burrow back as his quarterback strengthens his chances. Burrow, who was sidelined last season for part of it, managed 17 touchdowns in just eight games. Chase recorded several two-touchdown games with him. Chase would likely need multiple such performances this season to achieve his goal.
Additionally, Chase will benefit from playing one more regular-season game this season than Moss did in 2007. This offers a slight advantage in his pursuit of the touchdown record.
Following the training camp and preseason games, Chase will begin his quest on Sunday, Sept. 13, when the Bengals face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
