Smith, known for sparring with NBA stars such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving, initially sparked this particular tension during an ESPN “First Take” segment. He criticized Brown for labeling the 2025-26 season as his ‘favorite,’ despite the Celtics failing to the eighth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in the playoffs, squandering a 3-1 series lead.

Brown stated, “Why don’t we have a live audience debate, traditional media versus us athletes? And let’s do a live debate in front of a live streamed audience at a mutual location. Should be a piece of cake.” He reiterated potential debate locations and his readiness to engage.
Smith, who often finds himself in the midst of public disputes with NBA players, remains a focal point in sports media.
