Josh Downs Requests Trade Amid Colts’ Roster Changes

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has asked for a trade, as reported by ESPN. The 25-year-old player did not dismiss the report when he addressed the media.

Downs expressed his openness to opportunities, saying, “I’m open to whatever. Whatever comes my way, comes my way and we go from there,” according to ESPN.

Downs, warming up before an NFL game against the San Francisco 49ers at Lucas Oil Stadium in December 2025, may be leaving the Colts as they undergo significant changes. This week, the team traded away key players Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner.

The Colts recently dismissed general manager Chris Ballard and appear to be shifting into a rebuilding phase. Nelson went to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for third- and fifth-round draft picks. Buckner was sent to the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round pick. These picks hold particular value because the Colts do not have their first-round selection next year, having traded it to the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Downs’ career with the Colts began when they selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft from North Carolina. During his four years, he has played 54 games and gathered 224 receptions for 2,447 yards and 11 touchdowns. In addition, he has averaged 9.4 yards per punt return.

Before the trade deadline on Nov. 10, Downs could find himself on a new team if Indianapolis chooses to fulfill his request. Otherwise, he remains with the Colts, who will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, in what could be one of his last games with them.
