President Donald Trump has nominated Keith Sonderling as Labor Secretary. Sonderling has been serving as the acting secretary and is considered well-suited for the permanent role. His experience in the position has made him a strong candidate.
Trump’s first choice for the secretary position, former Republican congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer, stepped down after serving just over a year. Her resignation followed allegations of civil rights violations, an alleged improper relationship with an employee, and reports of limited office presence. Chavez-DeRemer has denied any accusations of misconduct.
The administration sees Sonderling’s leadership as pivotal in guiding the department through its responsibilities. His nomination is expected to bring stability and continuity to the role.
