Kennedy Expressway Exit Closed Due to Retaining Wall Collapse

State road officials shut down an exit on the Kennedy Expressway near Jefferson Park on Saturday due to a retaining wall collapse. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) informed the public about an emergency closure at the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit on the Kennedy (Interstate 90).

The closure follows an early morning incident where the concrete retention wall failed. The duration of the closure remains uncertain, IDOT reported. A statement from the department noted, “The department is inspecting the damage and evaluating the necessary repairs.”
They assured that more information, outlining the scope of repairs and any potential long-term closures, will be shared after inspections are concluded.

During the closure, IDOT advises commuters to allocate additional travel time and explore alternative routes. Safety is a priority, and drivers should exercise caution in work zones and remain vigilant of workers and equipment.
