A 53-year-old man named Christopher Michael Veit has been arrested in Florida for allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl and hiding her inside a clothes dryer at his residence in Key Largo. He faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor, as stated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities arrived at the home on Miramar Drive around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday. The teenage girl had called 911, claiming she was being held against her will. Investigators found her hidden inside a clothes dryer upon their arrival, according to reports.
Officials revealed that Veit had restrained the girl before placing her in the dryer. It was also reported that Veit had reportedly taken her cellphone when she expressed the desire to leave his home. Fortunately, the victim suffered no life-threatening injuries.
Authorities mentioned that the girl is not from Key Largo, but the nature of her connection to Veit remains unclear. Evidence of an ongoing inappropriate relationship between Veit and the victim has been uncovered during the investigation. The teenage girl was brought to a hospital for evaluation before being released to a family member.
Detectives from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation. They have indicated that more charges may be added. The Florida Department of Children and Families was also informed about the situation. During the investigation, detectives found several sheets of counterfeit currency at the scene, prompting the involvement of the U.S. Secret Service.
The authorities are still looking into the case, and potential additional charges may be considered.
