The Knicks will hold an official watch party with 3,000 fans outside Madison Square Garden for Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday. This follows a halt for the previous game due to a security dispute with the city and police. The Knicks have prevailed in three games out of the best-of-seven series against the San Antonio Spurs, and a win on Saturday could secure their first championship in over 50 years.
Fans have celebrated the team’s success with enthusiasm, leading to some arrests and injuries among police officers during fan clashes. However, most of these city-wide celebrations have been incident-free. For Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden, the police established a ‘frozen zone’ around the arena. This required fans and other visitors to Penn Station and nearby businesses to pass through checkpoints.
The Game 5 watch party announcement confirmed another frozen zone, although specific details on its timing and extent weren’t immediately available. The game, being held in San Antonio, will start at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.
