Lindsey Vonn’s Courageous Olympic Effort Marked by Injury

During the 2026 Winter Olympics, skier Lindsey Vonn made headlines with a bold performance, competing at age 41 despite a knee injury from a crash. Her determination shone through, but she faced another accident just 13 seconds into the women’s downhill final, resulting in significant injuries.

Five months post-Olympics, Vonn is still recovering. While attending the ESPYs in New York City, she shared her ongoing challenges with People. “It’s been a very slow process,” she stated. “It’s been five months since I could go to the gym meaningfully. Walking remains hard, as my ankle is still broken.”

Her decision to race, despite the risks, was one of the most courageous moments of the Games. However, the consequences were severe. Vonn endured a serious crash during the women’s downhill event. Prior to the Olympics, she had already sustained a ruptured ACL, a major setback.

Reflecting on her recovery, Vonn shared, “I was in a wheelchair and on crutches for almost three and a half months.” The moment she could walk unaided was emotional for her.

Despite these challenges, Vonn updated her followers this week, noting that her path to full recovery remains long and difficult.
