Franciscan Employee Celebrated for Children’s Safety Advocacy
Marissa Adcock, the Injury Prevention Coordinator in Franciscan Health’s Trauma Services Department, has been honored with the Child Safety Advocacy Award at the Safe Kids Indiana Automotive Safety Program in Indianapolis. Her work focuses on ensuring children’s safety through child safety seat inspection events across Northern Indiana. Adcock has expanded these services into several counties and also supports training events in Michigan City and Hammond.
New Community Grant Program by United Way Northwest Indiana
United Way Northwest Indiana has unveiled the 2026 Community Impact Grant Program. The initiative aims to enhance the lives of working families in several counties. Nonprofit organizations can apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $150,000 in areas such as financial stability and youth opportunity. Applications will be accepted until July 31, with funding decisions expected by September 30.
Maintenance Help Wanted for Lake County Fair
The Lake County Fair seeks assistance for its maintenance crew during the fair, held from August 7-16 in Crown Point. The positions involve setup and tear-down activities. The fair, established in 1852, is one of Indiana’s largest county fairs. Applications can be submitted online.
Free Safe Kids Day Event at LaPorte
A free Safe Kids Day event will be held on July 10 at the Family Resource Center in La Porte. The event will offer educational booths and activities geared toward children’s safety and happiness. Families can enjoy a free meal, live music, safety demonstrations, door prizes, and meet local heroes. The day is organized by Safe Kids Northwest Indiana along with several community partners.
Lake County Election Officials Gain Certifications
Kelley DePirro and Lori O’Dea from the Lake County Board of Elections have completed a program aimed at enhancing voter integrity. This program covered election administration topics such as cybersecurity and operational practices. DePirro also received recognition for her innovative project in the 2025 Clearinghouse Awards.
