Trinity Tatum and Bryce Alakai emerged as the winners of ‘Love Island USA’ season eight. They began the season as singles, seeking romance and left as a couple, sharing their first “I love you” on national TV.
The couple joined ‘TODAY’ for their first television interview post-show, after winning the $100,000 prize. Bryce Dettloff, known as Alakai, shared with Craig Melvin the intense emotions, anxiety, and pressure experienced during the show. Alakai emphasized the comfort and safety he found in Tatum during challenging moments.
The show isolated them with other contestants for six weeks. They coupled up on the first day. Although they considered other relationships, Tatum chose to focus on Alakai due to his personality.
A key hurdle was their age difference, with Tatum at 22 and Alakai turning 30 during filming. Alakai praised Tatum’s maturity, stating the age gap went unnoticed. Tatum also saw age as a positive, appreciating Alakai’s blend of humor and serious conversations.
Melvin remarked on the rarity of expressing “I love you” after just six weeks. Tatum explained that their constant presence and deep conversations naturally led to love.
Post-show, they experience separation anxiety when apart. Alakai mentioned the strong connection affecting their lives outside the show.
Alakai expressed the surreal feeling of returning home after the show’s isolation. Tatum plans fewer visits to Virginia, opting to explore Los Angeles with Alakai, her new home base.
