Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Friday the arrest of a man who made death threats against a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and his family during a protest in New Jersey on Thursday night. This arrest occurred shortly after Blanche publicly assured the public that the protester would be located and apprehended.
“That’s a federal crime,” Blanche said during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show” on Thursday. “Not only was the ICE officer threatened, but the individual went further by threatening the officer’s wife and children with death.”
In a video from the event, the protester can be heard menacingly telling the officer, “I will kill your whole family. Your children and wife all dead. I have your face!”
New Jersey saw federal immigration officers come into conflict with protesters outside Delaney Hall in Newark on Thursday. Blanche mentioned that the officer was performing his duties and was not engaging with the protest.
On Friday, Blanche wrote on social media platform X, stating, “Told you. @FBI just arrested the man who threatened to kill ICE officers and their families. FAFO.”
The individual has not been publicly identified yet.
During the confrontation outside Newark’s Delaney Hall detention center, officers dealt with protesters who were accused of attacking agents by biting, kicking, and punching. These protests had been ongoing for six nights by then. As a response, agents used pepper spray to manage the crowd.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported to Fox News Digital that nine individuals were arrested during the Thursday clashes.
On Wednesday night, approximately 100 anti-ICE protesters gathered near the Delaney Hall ICE facility. The DHS noted that local law enforcement did not assist their officers during the riot, which included demonstrators attacking and throwing objects at law enforcement. Six individuals were arrested that night for allegedly assaulting officers.
ICE agents used chemical irritants to disperse protestors at the federal immigration center. Local law enforcement reportedly did not respond, allegedly due to actions by Governor Sherrill, according to statements on Fox & Friends by Mullin on Thursday morning.
Protesters began demonstrating on May 22 over alleged detainee mistreatment, claiming denial of medical care, inadequate food, and lack of due process. DHS has rejected these accusations.
Fox News’ Charles Creitz and Robert McGreevy provided additional reporting for this story.
