As Taylor Swift prepares for her wedding celebration in Manhattan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York has disclosed that he is a bigger fan of her music than many might have realized. The ceremony, involving Swift and her fiancé Travis Kelce, is scheduled for Friday at Madison Square Garden.
Mayor Mamdani, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and a leader of the national progressive movement, admits to being a ‘Swiftie’ for at least a year. Like others in his generation, the 34-year-old mayor had Taylor Swift tracks in his personal playlist during 2021, featuring twelve of her songs among his top 100 favorites.
His unexpected fandom was shared by his office with The New York Times after he referenced one of Swift’s songs at a recent news conference. At the event, he stated he would not be attending Swift’s wedding but sent his well wishes, saying, “I’ll listen to ‘Only the Young’ at home on my own.”
“Only the Young” is a 2020 track with political themes, featured in the documentary “Miss Americana.”
