President Trump will meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson and top AI company executives at the White House. The meeting on Tuesday aims to address the challenges presented by AI technology’s rapid development. Among those attending is Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, accompanied by other key figures like OpenAI President Greg Brockman and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
The discussion will focus on finding a balance between regulation and innovation. House Speaker Johnson emphasized avoiding excessive regulation that could hinder innovation. He expressed the need for a balanced approach to ensure national security without stifling progress.
President Trump recently had a private dinner with Amodei. They discussed potential AI regulations, an area where Anthropic has advocated for industry safeguards. However, Trump has been resistant to slowing AI development, dismissing some concerns as exaggerated.
Executives at AI firms like Anthropic and OpenAI have voiced concerns about AI’s development pace. In contrast, figures like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argue these concerns are overstated. Huang and others warn that strict regulations could undermine the U.S.’s technological advantage over China.
Ahead of the meeting, Senate Majority Leader John Thune mentioned he would not attend, though he expressed hope for a productive discussion. Instead, Thune plans to meet with some AI leaders later in the week. The White House event coincides with another tech gathering in Washington, where AI will be a key topic.
