The Miami Hurricanes, recently featured in the national championship game, are capitalizing on their success with remarkable off-season acquisitions. They have secured transfer quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate from Duke, strengthening their future prospects.
The Hurricanes achieved another significant victory when A’mir Sears, a five-star cornerback and the second-ranked player in Florida, committed to Miami. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Sears is the 11th overall recruit in the nation. Miami was the first to offer Sears a scholarship, a strategy that paid off.
They have coaches that actually recruit. A lot of these schools are not recruiting honestly. They just send letters and generic texts. Miami has a real recruiting department.
Sears’ commitment brings Miami’s total to five five-star commits, placing them just behind Texas A&M for the most five-star pledges in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Besides Miami and Texas A&M, Notre Dame also has four or more five-star commitments.
With Sears’ addition, Miami surpasses Notre Dame and positions itself just behind Texas A&M for the No. 2 recruiting class nationally. Joining Sears are other five-star recruits, including cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and edge-rusher Jaiden Bryant.
During an official visit to Coral Gables in March, Sears expressed enthusiasm about his experience. He highlighted his enjoyment during a 3-on-3 basketball session where he dominated the court alongside Nick Lennear.
Man, it was a vibe. Played 3-on-3 basketball and ran the court for about nine straight games with Nick Lennear. I think playing for The U just excites me to put on for the crib.
Sears appreciates the physical and gritty nature of Miami’s football style, which resonates with him. The ongoing support from the coaching and recruiting staff further solidifies his decision.
