Michael Douglas has revealed intimate details about past relationships in his memoir. At 82, the seasoned actor shares these revelations in One Helluva Ride.
Affair During ‘Basic Instinct’
Although many believed Douglas was romantically involved with Sharon Stone during the filming of Basic Instinct in 1992, Douglas disclosed that his actual romantic interest was Jeanne Tripplehorn, a co-star nearly two decades younger. Reflecting on the relationship, Douglas stated, “The truth is, I fell very hard for Jeanne despite our nearly 20-year age difference.” He confessed a deep infatuation and mentioned his willingness to leave his wife at the time for Tripplehorn.
Douglas was married to Diandra Luker, but the couple was living separately by then. Luker filed for divorce in 1995. The romance with Tripplehorn ended when production wrapped up, yet Douglas noted, “I will always think of her as an amazing actress and a truly terrific woman that I was very fortunate to spend time with.”
Relationship with Kathleen Turner
Douglas also admits in the memoir to an affair with Kathleen Turner during the making of Romancing the Stone in 1984. The couple kept this relationship a secret for over 40 years, protecting Douglas’ marriage to Luker and their son, Cameron. They maintained this secrecy even during the sequel and while collaborating again on The Kominsky Method.
Douglas recalled, “The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship.” The romance developed during a stressful period of filming. Despite public perceptions of their relationship at the time, they consistently denied it.
The affair concluded when Luker and Cameron visited the set, emphasizing to Turner that Douglas was still married. Luker eventually divorced Douglas in 2000, after 23 years of marriage. In that period, Douglas married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he shares two children: Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23.
