Michael Weatherly will reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo in the upcoming season 24 of “NCIS.” CBS announced the 57-year-old actor’s return on July 1, revealing that he will join the popular procedural for a season-long storyline. Weatherly was a main cast member for 13 seasons before leaving the series in 2016. The network specified that the character reunion will encompass the entire season.
On the show’s Instagram page, Weatherly announced, “I’ll see you in the fall,” accompanied by the caption, “We’ve missed this one… welcome back, old friend!” Weatherly’s most recent NCIS appearance was in season 21, during an episode titled “The Stories We Leave Behind.” This episode was a tribute to David McCallum and his character Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, following McCallum’s death in September 2023.
Weatherly further explored his role in the spin-off series “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” alongside co-star Cote de Pablo. Unfortunately, “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” was canceled after one season in December. Many fans of the original series expressed their anticipation for DiNozzo and Ziva David’s reunion on “NCIS.” In response to Weatherly’s return announcement, eager fans commented on social media, hoping that de Pablo would join him.
Following the cancellation of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” both Weatherly and de Pablo expressed gratitude. They released a joint statement expressing appreciation for the opportunity to revisit their characters. Their message highlighted the support of the remarkable team at CBS Studios and Paramount+, and their thanks to fans worldwide who supported Tony and Ziva’s journey.
Alongside Weatherly, season 24 will feature Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. The show will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+.
